STOVE, RANGE AND OVEN REPAIR TIPS
Here are some quick things to check if your stove, range or oven is not working properly.
Madden Appliance Repair offers these repair tips as a courtesy. Madden Appliance Repair always recommends that you consult with a licensed service company before attempting any service work.
What should I do if my stove doesn’t work at all?
Make sure it’s plugged in! Check the power in the outlet by plugging something else in, or by testing with a voltmeter. Check your fuse box or circuit breaker panel to make sure you have power to the outlet.
Why won’t my oven heat?
1. Is there a problem with the oven igniter?
Check to see if the oven igniter is glowing. If the igniter is glowing for more than 90 seconds and the gas doesn’t come on, the igniter is probably too weak to open the gas valve and should be replaced.
2. Is there a problem with the bake element?
If the bake element (located at the top of the oven) doesn’t glow red when the oven is set to bake, the bake element may have burned out. Bake elements for most makes and models are readily available.
3. Is there a problem with the broiler element?
If the broiler element (located at the bottom of the oven)doesn’t glow red when the oven is set to broil, the broiler element may have burned out. Broiler elements for most makes and models are readily available.
4. Is the oven thermostat working?
Occasionally the oven thermostat fails. Replace the thermostat.
Why won’t my range/stove work?
1. Is there a problem with the surface element switch?
If your range has a coil type surface element, try pulling out the element and plugging it into another element of the same size. If it works in the other socket, replace the surface element switch. If it works, see below.
2. Is the coil surface element working properly?
If your range has a coil type surface element, try pulling out the element and plugging it into another element of the same size. If it fails in the other socket, replace the coil element. If it works in the other socket replace the switch (see above). Make sure the element is pushed all the way into the socket.
3. Is there a problem with the solid surface element?
If your range has a surface type element and it’s not heating, replace the surface element.
